We’re cooking a typical Italian Spaghetti Carbonara 🍝 in our holiday apartment.

Often, it’s the little things that make a holiday special. For us this time, it was homemade Spaghetti Carbonara, which we prepared one evening in our holiday apartment. But before we could start cooking, we first had to get all the ingredients.

Shopping at the Lenno Weekly Market 🥓🧀🍅

Before we started cooking, we picked up our ingredients at the weekly market in Lenno. If you love markets, this is already an experience in itself! The market takes place every Tuesday morning and is exactly what you imagine an Italian market to be like:

  • Fresh fruits & vegetables

  • Cheese and cured meat stalls

  • Everything you need for the perfect Carbonara

The best part is, of course: you can taste everything before you buy it. For our Carbonara, we wanted to make it truly authentic Italian, and for that, only the best ingredients would do. So off we went, picking out Guanciale, Pecorino, and Parmesan – all carefully selected and approved by our taste buds beforehand!

Preparing the Ingredients 🥓🥚🧀

With the fresh ingredients from Lenno, we laid everything out:

  • Spaghetti

  • Guanciale

  • Eggs

  • Pecorino & Parmesan

  • Freshly ground black pepper

Not many ingredients, but in the end, quality makes all the difference. Timing is also important – but don’t worry, you’ve got this! At least in our holiday apartment, you’ll find all the utensils needed to make a perfect Carbonara.

Preparing the Guanciale & Cooking the Pasta 🥓🍝

First, cut the Guanciale into small cubes or strips. Then heat a pan on high heat and add the Guanciale once the pan is hot. This way, it fries beautifully in its own fat, becoming crispy and releasing its full flavor.

And honestly: there’s almost nothing better than snacking on a few pieces of the crispy bacon while you cook. 😋

At the same time, you can start cooking the spaghetti (don’t forget to generously salt the water) and grate the cheese finely, so everything is ready when the pasta is done.

Making the Sauce 🥚🧀

Once the spaghetti are al dente and the Guanciale is crispy:

  • Whisk together the eggs, cheese, and the fat from the Guanciale in a bowl.

  • Gradually add a little pasta water until the mixture becomes nicely creamy.

This creates the classic, smooth and creamy Carbonara sauce that perfectly coats the pasta. Important: the mixture must not be too hot, otherwise the eggs will scramble and you’ll end up with scrambled eggs instead of creamy sauce.

The Perfect Drink 🍺🍷

While cooking, of course, you can’t go without a small Peroni, a Birra Moretti, or a glass of red wine. The perfect companions to Carbonara and absolutely recommended for enjoying the full dose of Italian lifestyle.

Combine Everything & Enjoy 🍝✨

Take the hot spaghetti out of the water, toss them together with the crispy Guanciale in the pan, and then fold in the egg and cheese mixture. Just like that, you have the perfect, creamy Carbonara. A flourish with the pan while mixing will also impress anyone sharing the meal!

In the end, all you have to do is plate everything nicely, and voilà – your perfect Italian Spaghetti Carbonara is ready! 🍝✨

Salute e buon appetito!🍝🥂
